Adriana Schiffrin Essay Prize
Prize requirements
1. PARTICIPANTS
The competition is open to all those who, due to their academic training,
professional or work experience, are interested in issues of environment
and sustainable development. The age limit is 35.
The Adriana Schiffrin Prize - 2003 awardees will not be allowed to participate
in this competition.
The essays could be developed by only one person or by a group. The groups
may be integrated by only two persons. In the case an essay of two persons
is selected, both of the integrants will receive a diploma, and the award
in pesos will be divided.
2. SUBJECT OF MONOGRAPHS
The subject of the competition is Justice and Environment.
3. PRESENTATION OF MONOGRAPHS
The monographs to be presented must be original, unpublished, written
on paper in Spanish.
The monograph must be of no less than 8,000 words, and of no more than
10,000 words (including footnotes and bibliography). It must be written
in MS Word format, Tahoma no.12 font, with single-line spacing and on
both sides of the letter paper, size (216 x 279 mm).
The text must include an abstract of the essential aspects of the monograph,
of no more than 250 words.
Presentation must include:
- A hard copy of the monograph, in quadruplicate, without rings and
folders.
- A covering letter of presentation containing the participant's full
name, postal address and e-mail address.
- A disquette, which includes the covering letter of presentation and
the monograph.

DEADLINE FOR THE PRESENTATION: Monographs will be received by
Fundación Ambiente y Recursos Naturales until September
19 , 2005.
4. AUTHORSHIP AND ORIGINALITY OF THE WORKS
The presentation of a monograph in the competition necessarily implies
the unconditional acceptance of all the conditions, and a guarantee by
the competitor, with total indemnity for the Fundación Ambiente
y Recursos Naturales, of the authorship and originality of the work, and
that it is not a copy or total or partial modification of any other work.
5. JURY AND SELECTION OF THE AWARDED MONOGRAPHY
The Jury is integrated by the following members:

Supreme Court of Justice of Mendoza
- Ricardo Luis Lorenzetti, Minister,
Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation
- Silvina Ramírez, Executive Director, Instituto de Estudios
Comparados en Ciencias Penales y Sociales (INECIP)
For the qualification and selection of monographs, the Jury will, among
other points, consider the theoretical contribution to the subject (conceptual
richness of the paper); its temporal relevance (current importance); the
clarity and conciseness of the writing; and the richness of the conclusions
or proposals contained in the paper.
The decision of the Jury is final and cannot be contested.
6. AWARD
A prize of a sum in pesos equivalent to US$ 1,000 and a diploma will be
awarded to the monograph selected by the Jury; a prize of a sum in pesos
equivalent to US$ 500 and a diploma will be awarded to the first mention;
and a diploma will be given to the second mention.
The award-winning monographs will be published by the Fundación
Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (FARN).
The verdict of the Jury will be made public in a ceremony which will
take place during November 2005, in the City of Buenos Aires.
7. SURRENDER OF RIGHTS
The awarding of the prize and the mentions means that the authors
of the awarded papers shall surrender to Fundación Ambiente y Recursos
Naturales (FARN) all copyrights for reproduction by any graphic, mechanical
or electronic means, or in any other form, and its dissemination.
8. CONFLICT RESOLUTION
The participation in this competition implies the acceptance of the present
conditions.
If doubts, claims, or discrepancies emerge either directly or indirectly
from the execution of the conditions, the parties promise to solve them
amicably, and only in those cases in which the dialogue is not possible
will they refer to the Law Courts of the City of Buenos Aires.
